Big Tech

Māori translation:
Definition

Big Tech refers to the world’s largest tech companies. It includes trillion dollar market cap companies, Google parent Alphabet (GOOGL, GOOG ), Amazon (AMZN), Apple (AAPL), Facebook and Instagram parent, Meta Platforms (META), and Microsoft (MSFT). Because of their size, continued growth, innovation and scale, and international tech dominance in core company, education, commerce and social activities (hardware, software, platforms, cloud, financial products, and security) they’ve had significant influence on financial markets and the global economy. Particularly so for the Nasdaq, which is the share market these companies are all listed on. Read more about why the Nasdaq has attracted many tech companies.

We acknowledge and thank the FMA, Dr Karena Kelly and Brook Taurua Grant, the RBNZ and the Māori Dictionary for their research which helped us with te Reo Māori kupu for this glossary.
